Booking Through Thursday...Mark the Spot

Suggested by Tammy:
What items have you ever used as a bookmark? What is the most unusual item you’ve ever used or seen used?

I love bookmarks and always try to buy myself a new one whenever I buy books. I also seem to lose them and so I need a large supply. A couple of my favorites are flat metal ones. One has a turquoise stone at the top and one has stamped wording on it with a ribbon at the top. I really like the metal ones because of their weight.

When I can't find one of my bookmarks I will use any scrap of paper to mark my place. It could be a post it, a receipt or a photo. I refuse to fold page corners and will just try to remember what page I'm on to avoid damaging the book.

I don't think I've ever used anything really strange for a bookmark though...What about you? What's the strangest thing you've ever used for a bookmark?

Oh, thank you. :)
I love to look at those bookmarks because they bring me so much good memories.

I like metal bookmarks but they often fall out I find. I use all sorts - I think i need to get some more!

I like the metal kind, too. They seem to be a little easier to keep track of. But I've used all kinds of other things, too!

Your bookmarks sound really pretty!

I'm the same way about folding the corners. My sister folds the corners down for quotes she likes but I just can't do it! Love bookmarks too.

No folding corners for me. I use anything that comes handy, including many you have mentioned. :)

There are some beautiful bookmarks available, but I tend not to use them. I find I use whatever is handy at the time!

well there are supermarket receipts, sheets of Charmin, bank deposit slips, coupons, hair clips, ribbons, nail files, empty envelopes, prayer cards, etc etc etc I keep all my 'real' book marks in a big mug on my desk, and whenever I start a new book, I pull 2 out of the mug and insert them into the book.

Great post by the way...lots of fun

I love bookmarks - especially homemade ones :)

I know exactly what you mean. I keep losing them when i was younger, so I ended up buying them whenever I stepped into a bookstore, which kinda bad, cause now i have lots of them that I don't use cause they are too adorable -_-"

Here's mine

I love bookmarks and have way too many of them. My husband jokes that I have just about one for every book in the house. That's not even close to being true. LOL I go through phases where I favor one kind over another. Right now I'm really into the book thongs.

The most unusual bookmark I've used recently was a penny. I was desperate.

I have an abundance of used train tickets that I tend to use for bookmarks, since I lose them all the time.

But once I started using a cheque I had received from an aunt for Christmas as a bookmark in a book I had also received for Christmas. When I went back to uni, I was way too busy to finish reading the book, so I put it aside and completely forgot about both the book and the bookmark. I picked it up again over a year later to find the now expired cheque still marking my page. I've carried on using it as a bookmark since - I figure I might as well make some use of it.

I love bookmarks as well and have been trying to collect them for a few years now. Recently I have begun making them, and some of my favorites have dried flowers and little emblems and jewels on them. I will have to make a special one for you and send it along!
